Short biography Santiago grew up in Bogotá, Colombia, where he received his degrees on electrical and electronic engineering from the Universidad de los Andes. Soon afterwards, motivated by his passion for science, he decided to cross the Atlantic and enroll at the Nanobiophysics Master program at the TU Dresden in Germany. For his Master thesis, he joined the Institute of Integrative Nanosciences at IFW Dresden, where he developed a Flexible magnetic field mapping platform for large area applications. Based on this milestone, he decided to stay and join as a PhD student to further develop the field of ultra-thin and imperceptible magnetic sensors. After acquiring some valuable experience in microfabrication at IFW, he joined the "Intelligent Materials and Devices" research group lead by Dr. Denys Makarov at Helmholtz-Zentrum-Dresden-Rossendorf.
Outside the lab, he enjoys playing tennis, basketball among several other different sports. Also, he can strum quite some chords with the guitar but doesn't do it on a regular basis. If he is not caught up by any of these activities, he will be reading a book or joining a handful of cultural activities around. Research interests- Flexible and stretchable magnetoelectronics
